Welcome to The Bull’s Head! Located on the riverside in the heart of leafy Barnes Village, with excellent links into central London and the suburbs, we like to think of ourselves as the last bastion of ‘proper pubs’ in Barnes.

Thursday 12th November marked the opening of our Jazz Festival, celebrating 50 years of Jazz at The Bull. The party was hosted by virtuoso trumpeter and bandleader Paul Eshelby and quite remarkably featured octogenarian Vic Ash, who was the headline act for the first gig and opening night of the club back in 1959.  The Yamaha Music Room provided the perfect setting for a fantastic bill of acts including Simon Spillett, Yolanda
Brown, Jason Yard and Elisa Caleb.  The musicians were joined by 150 regular Jazz guests, musicians, members of the music press and our resident artist (and creator of the fantastic anniversary posters you¹ll see on the walls), Bruce Mclean.

The evening was a fantastic success, and a fitting celebration not only of 50 years of Jazz at The Bull, but also the opening of the London Jazz Festival.  Thank you to all who attended and helped us to mark the occasion in such a special way.  Roll on the next 50 years!  Our thanks go to Young & Co Brewery, Yamaha and London Jazz Festival for their kind sponsorship of the night and the entire Festival.

The Festival featured a plethora of top acts.  Charlie Watts, playing with Ben Waters and Axel Zwinnenburger wowed a packed house, amazing audiences with their ABC of Boogie Woogie.  We were also honoured to feature Sheila Jordan in a marvellous
evening that happened to coincide with her birthday, which was only topped by her fabulous masterclass session that she ran in the afternoon to a select group of 50 people.

Other highlights included returns to The Bull for old favorites such as the ever funky System X, an amazing performance by the Back Door Too, and the magnificent Antonio Forcione! We are already trying to get all of them back at some point next year for you. Watch this space!
